A Narrow Escape!

The Bukit Timah Railway station's time is almost up. Like many other Singaporeans bored with our modern but bland, unexciting city, G and I jumped at the news and seized the opportunity to visit an old railway station still in 'action' before it becomes nothing more than a 'historical landmark'.

And boy did we get a little more action than we had bargained for!

This cargo train was pulling out from the station not more than 500m from the steel bridge truss across Bukit Timah Road where we were taking pictures along the railway tracks. Amidst the frustrated traffic below us, I heard a faint honk coming from behind me. I turned only to be greeted by a bright beam shinning head on. Too afraid waste another moment, I broke into a run and shouted a warning to G.

G initially thought I was playing a prank on him. But he fortunately found his senses in the nick of time and picked up speed. Just as the two of us slid down this huge patch of green grass, the cargo train chugged by - a lot more slowly than I had imagined it would.

As we dusted the chalky soil off our hands and knees, G managed to capture the back of our cargo train as it disappeared into the thick forest, creating a memento of our narrow escape.
