I had a long and hard week at work and G had just returned from a work trip to Cambodia. Furthermore, we have not had a weekend "date" a long while, so a good dinner was on the cards. We initially planned on dinning at Ippudo, but the snaking queues did not sit well with our growling tummies. Just as we were about to leave Mandarin Gallery in defeat, we chanced upon a casual yet chic eatery, Jones the Grocer.
Memories of the lovely breakfast I had with my family at Jones the Grocer in New Zealand came rushing back and I knew G just had to try it! Unfortunately, the Singapore outlet did not serve an all-day breakfast menu, so we ordered from their dinner menu. G chose a chicken confit while I went for the duck pasta.
Duck Pasta: a generous portion of duck served with buttery button mushrooms (which were bursting with flavor) and garnished with slivers of cheese.
G's chicken confit served on a bed of roasted potatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms.
They both exceeded our expectations though we both thought the chicken confit was the winner, hands down! In G's words, it was "not just good, but very good!"
Where food is concern, G is a man of few kind words, in fact, he has never ever bestowed so much as a superlative on any dish before. So it came as quite a shock to me to hear him confer high honours on such a humble chicken dish! Certainly something to order the next time you are at Jones the Grocer!
