Every outing to The Central ends in some kind of disaster. Sure, the mall is home to great Japanese restaurants, but the long queues will crush the spirit! The first time we were there for Santouka, we had to settle for the restaurant next door - an overpriced Nasi Padang stall. It was tasty, but extremely pricey!
Then last Friday, we tried again. We stood in the line for a bit and then gave up quite readily when we realized that TCC was holding a 1 for 1 promotion on their main courses and there were only three other couples in line. I've never had their main courses before so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their pasta - not bad lah!
And then by coincidence, I found out that Santouka had another lesser known branch on Cuppage Terrace, so we tried our luck the day after. So Good!! The slices of marbled pork cheeks literally melted in my mouth! The ramen was excellent too, though the broth (I choose a spicy miso broth) was not as porky (might have been my choice of broth!) as I would have liked to have had it.
Well obviously I'll have no more reason to visit The Central anymore, but they do have this wonderful bakery called Barcook (no queues!) which sells the most amazing cheese raisin buns! On both visits to The Central, we bought bags of these buns to munch on. But I'm sure they have other outlets as well.
